Julie Taksh

Julie Ann Taksh is a compassionate and highly experienced counsellor, clinical supervisor, Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist, Interpersonal Therapist and EMDR Consultant, practising as Durham Gate Therapy in Durham City. Originally trained as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), she has over 25 years' experience working in a therapeutic capacity across the NHS, voluntary and private sectors, giving her the diverse skills to work with a wide range of psychological issues. She specialises in adult mental health, with a particular interest in PTSD, anxiety issues, depression and some neurological problems.

Julie is an accredited practitioner in all four therapies she delivers, holding accreditation with the UK's leading professional bodies — MBACP Senior Accredited (counselling), BABCP Accredited (CBT), EMDR Europe & Ireland Accredited Consultant, and IPT UK Accredited — a level of quality assurance above ordinary membership. Her qualifications include an MA in Counselling, a BSc (Hons) in CBT, and a PG Certificate in Supervision. Her work is client-centred and grounded in a trusting therapeutic relationship, drawing on leading-edge, evidence-based techniques and protocols in line with NICE guidance.

She works with adults of all ages and young people, offering EMDR, CBT, counselling and clinical supervision, and helps with a broad range of difficulties including abuse, anger management, anxiety, bereavement and loss, bullying and harassment, chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, cultural issues, depression, disability and health-related issues, OCD, phobias, post-traumatic stress and trauma, redundancy and job loss, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, stress, women's issues, and support for service veterans and combat stress. Julie accepts referrals from individuals, Employee Assistance Programmes, private organisations, insurance companies, solicitors, GPs and other professionals, and offers time-limited or longer-term work delivered by video call, telephone or face-to-face from private, discreet premises in Durham Gate.
